Apple is considering tandem OLEDs for its 2028 iPhones

According to a recent report from The Elec, Apple is currently evaluating plans to bring tandem OLED displays to the iPhone. Apple is currently evaluating the optimal tandem OLED display for the iPhone, and it apparently prefers a simplified implementation to the one used on the most recent iPad Pros. A simplified tandem OLED would still consist of two panels, with the second OLED layer only including the blue subpixels, while the primary panel houses the red and green ones. LG Display has allegedly contacted Apple about a simplified tandem OLED display last year, and Apple is also in talks with its other key supplier – Samsung Display.

Apple usually operates a standard two-year schedule for development and mass production, and the new report suggests the earliest iPhone with a tandem OLED would appear in 2028. While the report does not go into detail about which model of the iPhone would receive the new display tech, it will likely be an exclusive feature for Pro models.
