Xiaomi teases smaller Watch S4 41mm and new open-ear headphones for tomorrow’s event
Xiaomi launched the Watch S4 late last year and refreshed it last month with an in-house watch chipset, the Xring T1. Now yet another revision is coming – a smaller 41mm model.
Dubbed simply the Xiaomi Watch S4 41mm, this model will lean into being a fashion accessory. The pictured version is “Quicksand Gold” and is paired with a gold Milanese strap.
The polyhedron-cut crown is studded with a six-point diamond – it’s a lab-grown diamond, but it is an actual diamond. There’s no word whether the “gold” is gold plating or just paint.
The teaser images don’t reveal much, they only mention 8-day battery life. The original 47mm Watch S4 claimed up to 15 days of battery life, but this smaller timepiece will, of course, have a smaller battery.
Thats why we brought up the Xring T1 – the T1 has a 4G modem that is 35% more efficient than the modem inside the original Watch S4 (and it just happens to be Xiaomi’s first-ever in-house 4G modem). An efficient chipset is a must-have for a wearable with a small battery. Plus, the Xring T1 has a bit of extra compute power, which enabled several new features (e.g. a live feed when remote-controlling your phone’s camera).
The company is also teasing the Xiaomi OpenWear Pro. They are tuned by Harman and have the “world’s first open-style five-unit system” – the machine translation is a bit vague on what that is exactly.
Anyway, the buds will have an open design, i.e. they let outside sound in, which makes them suitable for wearing in the office or outside, anywhere you need to remain aware of your surroundings. They also don’t plug up your ear canal, which makes them more comfortable for longer wear times – the skin-friendly liquid silicone will also improve all-day wear comfort.
Tune into tomorrow’s event, we will be covering the launches of all new devices, including the Xiaomi Mix Flip 2, Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro, new smart glasses and anything else that Lei Jun and company have in store for us.
